The final conference of the Minus 3% project “Shining Examples for the implementation of the Energy End-Use Efficiency and Energy Services Directive”

The final conference “Rational use of energy in public buildings financing and implementation” was organized in Maribor, Slovenia in hotel Habakuk, on 21st of September 2011.
Participating speakers at the conference were from Energap, Slovenia; GEA Graz; Codema Dublin; Bryson Energy, United Kingdom; EID Spain; ECB, Slovakia; ZRMK (Building and Civil Engineering Institute), Slovenia; Institute Josef Stefan, Slovenia; LEAS Consortium; National Eco fund, Slovenia; Financial institutions from Slovenia and Austria.

The main topics were:

  • Official opening by Mayor of Maribor, the European Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Janez Potočnik, representatives of Slovenian government and Minus 3% Project coordinator, Mr. Gerry Wardell, Codema
  • Panel presentations and open public discussion on results and lessons learnt within Minus 3% project partners from Slovenia, Austria, Ireland, United Kingdom, Spain and Slovakia
  • Practical experiences with energy efficiency in public sector across EU (buildings, street lighting, transport)
  • Involvement of financial sector (banks, ESCOs) in the implementation of measurements and EU best practice examples

City of Maribor signs up to the Covenant of Mayor

On Thursday 21st April 2011, the Mayor of Maribor Franc Kangler, signed a declaration to the Covenant of Mayor. The Covenant of Mayor is an agreement of participating cities, with which the cities are committed to improve energy efficiency and with use of production and cleaner energy use exceed the objectives of European Union energy policy to reduce CO2 emissions. Cities are also committed to implement the tasks devoted adequate human resources, to encourage civil society in their geographical areas to take part in implementing the action plan, including the organization of local energy days, and will be mutually connected with other cities.

The day after the final conference of the Minus 3% project was the final seventh Project Meeting. It took place in Maribor, Slovenia, on the 22nd and 23rd of September 2011, hosted by the project partners Energy agency of Podravje and Municipality of Maribor from Slovenia. The planning, implementation, deliverables and organizational matters of the project were discussed. Also the tasks and responsibilities of each partner for the end of the project were discussed.

Minus 3% project was successfully completed. We achieved all the goals that we have as partners at the beginning of the project set.
